UK Crop Circles - End of Season 2005

As reported on the Temporary Temple newsletter:

Looks like the last formation has occurred for this season, (boo! hoo!) in Wiltshire anyway, unless we have any last minute surprises. Consisting of a sort of large quintuplet configuration, the formation appeared in the same field as the formation that appeared recently at Cherhill on the 21st of August. The formation we think,was about 300ft across.Some ground photographs by visitors and basic measurements were taken before the farmer harvested the field within hours of the formation being found. No aerials were taken as far as we know. So that could be it for another year.

The Return of the Swallows

The Swallows return for another season

This brilliant and elegant formation has just recently appeared on the slopes above The Devils Den. The ancient stone dolmen nestles in the valley below this impressive event. This must be, for me at least, one of the most exhilarating formations I have ever seen. The swallows seem to be in full flight and the formation as a whole takes on a three dimensional quality from the air. It brings back memories of the Swallows formation in the late season of 2003, which I also had the privilege to fly over. I believe they both carry the same powerful ecological message that is so important to us all. I feel the wonderful qualities of this incredible formation simply cannot be understated.

Sand Circles History

My latest interest has been creating Sand Circles on the beaches of San Francisco. This began innocently enough with a fascination with crop circle designs, especially the ones coming out in recent years. My take on the source of that particular phenomenon....as yet undecided!

But the designs, they speak to us. A search for the meaning within these designs, coupled with a search for the deeper meaning underlying the shapes within the artwork that I do brought me to incredible insights. I have a whole discussion about my influences here.

So one day my partner Amy and I were in Kauai, soaking up the sun on the beach at Kalulau Valley, when I used my walking stick to illustrate to Amy concepts about Sacred Geometry that I had been learning. Earlier, in San Francisco, I had been doing crop circle reconstructions on computer using Illustrator. Reconstructions are a person's reverse engineering of circle designs (good ones can be found here). As I was making a few circles, showing basic concepts of sacred geometry, the obviousness of the two artforms came together. Suddenly the possibilities hit me.

Hawaii was a poor place for circles due to the short, steep shorelines. Strangely enough, there I was in paradise and I couldn't wait to get back to the beaches of San Francisco! I was salivating over the broad open expanse, the long shallow beaches, the canvases awaiting me. Imagine- going to Hawaii to learn how much I love SF beaches (for as dirty and crowded as they are)!

As soon as I returned home I took my pal in psychedelic crime, Kris Northern (aka Phidelity) out to show him what I had 'discovered'. I soon made a believer out of him. The designs are easily developed and executed. There is no cost involved and brings me to Ocean Beach, a place that in all my years prior I had visited perhaps a handful of times. It is a relaxing pursuit with practically instant, and beautiful, gratification.

Crop Circles Statistics for 2004 released

The International Crop Circle Archive (ICCA) team, based in Germany and led by ANDREAS MÜLLER, have released their annual round-up of recent crop circle facts and figures…

ICCA ANNUAL REPORT 2004
In 2004, 229 crop circles and formations were discovered and documented world-wide, which resembles a clear decrease in relation to last year's number, which was 250.

Included as well is a counting of those formations that were definitively man-made. Please note that these figures do not claim to show the exact and total amount of hoaxing, but list only those formations DEFINITIVELY of a man-made origin (like official projects of hoaxing, adverts, experiments or art).

The statistic counts only crop circles in a more or less classical sense as geometrically flattened vegetation, but does not count formations in other media such as soil, sand, ice, etc., but of course those were documented and archived by ICCA as well.

2004 - Crop Circles per country
The first number shows ranking, the number following the country name shows the actual amount, while the last figure shows the percentage of the total:
